Qld: Caffeine drink given to children
The Queensland government has warned an energy drink maker to be mindful of its obligationstowards children.
The maker of the drink Red Bull has come under fire for allegedly promoting its caffeineproduct to children.
Gold Coast MP CHRISTINE SMITH says teams of Red Bull promoters have been handing outsample cans of the drink to children at skateboard parks.
The can carries a label warning pregnant women and children not to drink it.
Ms SMITH, a Labor backbencher, says she is concerned the drink is being given to childrenwithout their parents' permission and without checking their age.
Premier PETER BEATTIE says he expects the promoters to be mindful of their obligationNOT to target children.
Mr BEATTIE says Queensland is taking part in a national review of the drinks and supportstougher measures covering their sale and labelling.
