A friend recently tried to make a case for health care and a free market being incompatible. Anyone who thinks the market forces in health care haven't been working needs to consider one thing - we haven't had a free market in health care in our lifetimes.
The system has been corrupted by employer-paid insurance and government programs. Since the receiver of care (for the most part) hasn't been responsible for the cost, the "invisible hand" of the free market hasn't been operating.
